Our research is part of a transformative-sociocritical approach to an education for sustainable development (ESD) that considers landscapes as learning contexts. In this perspective, we interviewed 16- to 17-year-old students from the Lower St. Lawrence region (Quebec, Canada) about their relationships to knowledges as well as their role as a citizen regarding to environmental issues and the St. Lawrence River, the river they face on a daily basis. In respect of theoretical considerations, we propose articulating the concepts of relationships to knowledge, territorial and place identity and agency. An analysis of the questionnaires (N= 334) allows us especially to characterise the various identity-centred relationships with this landscape and define the eco-civic agency of the students. These findings open up proposals for a St. Lawrence River ESD curriculum that is grounded in student concerns and aims to make the treatment of social and ecological challenges in high school more meaningful, for greater engagement of young people about it. Notre recherche s’inscrit dans une approche transformatrice-sociocritique de l’éducation au développement durable (EDD) qui considère notamment les paysages comme contextes d’apprentissages. Dans cette optique, nous avons interrogé des élèves âgés de 16-17 ans de la région du Bas-Saint-Laurent (Québec, Canada) sur leurs rapports au Saint-Laurent, ce fleuve auquel ils font face au quotidien, ainsi que sur leur rôle en tant que citoyen à cet égard. Au plan théorique, nous proposons d’articuler les concepts de rapports aux savoirs, d’identité territoriale, d’identité de lieu et d’agentivité. L’analyse des questionnaires (N=334) permet plus particulièrement de caractériser différents rapports identitaires à ce paysage et de définir l’agentivité écocitoyenne des jeunes interrogés. Ces résultats ouvrent sur des propositions pour un curriculum de l’EDD du fleuve Saint-Laurent ancré dans les préoccupations des élèves et visant à conférer plus de sens au traitement des défis sociaux et écologiques à l’école secondaire, pour plus d’engagement des jeunes à ce propos.
